Our Educators Rising Chapter had their state conference at DSU this past week. At conference, students can choose to compete in different categories that are all related to teaching & education. Depending on the competition, students can compete as an individual or as a team. Students can earn a bronze, silver, or gold rating. If they also place in the top 10, they qualify for the National Conference.
Dulce Gutierrez competed in Children's Literature Pre-K Spanish. She wrote and illustrated her own book in Spanish targeted at a Pre-School audience. She received a silver in her event!
Anna Marohl competed in Creative Lecture. This is a TED Talk with the topic, "The Double-Edged Sword of AI." She received a silver in her event!
Our Ethical Dilemma team consisted of Anna Marohl, Riley Hybertson, & Dulce Gutierrez. They were given an ethical education-related dilemma and had to collaboratively debate the topic and come up with a solution. They received a silver in their event & also placed 3rd overall!
Kayla Stevens & Riley Hybertson competed in Interactive Bulletin Board. They prepared an interactive display board that could be used in a 3rd grade classroom setting to teach a lesson on division. In order to qualify for Nationals in this event, students must earn a 97% or higher on their scoring rubric. These girls did it!! They are headed to Orlando, Florida in June to present their board at the National Conference!
Congratulations, Ed Risers!

Happy Birthday!

This week we turn the spotlight to another teacher we are very grateful for here in Tornado Nation! Mrs. Jessie Knutson serves as our Agriculture teacher as well as advises our FFA program. Thank you for your dedication and service to the students at CHS Mrs. Knutson!
Staff Spotlight - Mrs. Knutson - Ag Ed/FFA Advisor
About Me -
I grew up on an acreage outside of Harrisburg. I graduated from Harrisburg High School and attended SDSU, where I majored in Agriculture Education and minored in Animal Science. After my husband, Justin, and I got married in the spring of 2014, we settled down in Centerville, where I accepted my first teaching job and continue to teach today. We have three children: Clay, age 8; Sierra, age 6; and Levi, age 2. Some of our favorite family times include helping Justin on the family farm in various ways, such as helping with planting, picking rocks, cleaning fence lines, and just being together on the farm.
Favorites -
Color - Green
Animal - Horse
Hobby - I’m a mother and wife. Who has time for those? Just kidding! Those are my favorite titles to have! When I do have time, I love to do a puzzle, be outside, and ultimately, I love just spending time with my family.
Food - Peanut butter and chocolate
Drink - Coffee
Memory -
My favorite memories have been getting the opportunity to work in the same school that my own children are attending. This allows me to be involved in their activities during the day and see them in the hallways. The greatest memories have been watching my children create meaningful relationships with my FFA members.
Why Statement -
I’ve always loved helping others. Originally, I wanted to be a school counselor, but I was told that I needed to have a teaching background. The impact that my high school ag teacher had on me led me to choose to pursue a degree in agriculture education. The aspect of ag education that I most enjoy is the opportunity to teach young people practical, real-life skills. I also love that FFA provides opportunities to engage with and learn from people from all over the world who share the same passion for agriculture. The chance to help students build real-life skills in the classroom and the shop, as well as the benefits of FFA, and ultimately, the relationships built with students along the way are what keep me in education.
