Good morning Tornado Nation! We want to put the spotlight on another one of our very valued teachers this week, our MS/HS History Teacher Mr. Kory Muller. If he's not teaching history or geography, it could be Health, PE, and even automotive classes. When he's not doing all of that, he is coaching, jumping on a microphone, or doing anything and everything to bring positive energy in our building and in the entire community!

About me:
I am a graduate of THE Waubay high school, as is my beautiful wife Laurie.
After graduation I spent the year farming and finding myself ... mostly on a tractor, a hayrack, squeezed between milk cows, or shoveling snow. After a year on my own, I decided to that I wanted to be a teacher so off the farm and on to SDSU I went. I have to be honest, I didn't think I was college material but I LOVED being a Jackrabbit!!
On December 23rd, 2000, Laurie and I got married and started our forever journey. The following summer I took my first teaching job in Centerville...thanks for the callback, Mr. Voss! I have been part of Tornado Nation since 2001 as a teacher, coach, and fan!
Laurie and I moved to Centerville in 2013 after living in Yankton for ten years. We love our place on the edge of town where we can enjoy the conveniences of “city life” yet feel like we are still in the country. We have four boys - Brady, Jace, Carter, and Camden. They are busy in a variety of different activities which keeps us all on the go!
CHS Memory:
I've had so many great CHS memories over the years, but one of my favorites has to be driving the school bus home from Tea as the boys chanted "State! State! State!" following our 2014 Region 5 boys basketball win. That was pretty cool!!
I got a lot more memories of a lot of great people so stop by sometime, I'd love to share them.
Why did you choose education?
Well, becoming a teacher wasn't my first choice as a profession...I thought about being a stunt man, then a cowboy or rodeo clown, possibly a race car driver…that looked fun! I tried farming, construction, building grain bins, but I wasn’t very good at those I guess, so, after taking a year “off” I decided to go to SDSU to become a teacher.
Seriously though, I love what I do. I've always enjoyed young people and wanted to be part of their journey, so becoming a teacher seemed to make sense. I have been blessed with so many great relationships with staff & students both past and present, and I am very thankful for that. I couldn't have seen myself doing anything else, anywhere else.

About me:
My husband Dennis and I just celebrated our 30th wedding anniversary. He recently retired from Grossenburg Implement and farms. We have two boys, Nick and Brandon. Nick, his wife Ali, and their two daughters, Harper (2) and Paisley (4 months), live on a farm outside of Beresford. Nick works for Jensen Insurance in Beresford. Our youngest son Brandon and his girlfriend Tiana live in Vermillion. He teaches, coaches, and is the athletic director for the Gayville-Volin School District.
Why did you choose education?
I have always known that I wanted to be a teacher. I have been fortunate to have several teachers in my life that had a positive impact on me, but there are two that stand out. My 3rd grade teacher Mrs. Bonte’s love of learning and strong desire to make an impact in the lives of her students inspired me to become a teacher. She is the reason I double majored in Elementary Education and Special Education at USD (Go Yotes!). I then had an amazing student teaching experience here in Centerville in Roxanne Evans’ first grade classroom. She taught me what type of teacher I wanted to be. I was hired by the Centerville School District after completing my student teaching experience. I just started my 30th year in the district (Go Tornadoes)!

10/16: Cross Country regions today @ Arlington. With a chance to make the State Championship on the line, come out and cheer on the Tornadoes!

While we still don't know for sure that we will be making the football playoffs, there is a good chance that we will be qualifying which means that we would be playing on Thursday, October 24th. This is also the night scheduled for parent-teacher conferences. After some discussion, it was decided to make the following changes:
*Move parent-teacher conferences from Thursday, October 24th to Tuesday, October 29th.
*Keep a 2:00 dismissal for Thursday, October 24th as we likely will be on the road if we do make the playoffs and a couple of the locations are a little farther away.
*With parent-teacher conferences on Tuesday, October 29th, this would be a 2:00 dismissal.
*Keep no school on Friday, October 25th.
Parents of elementary students should use the following link to sign-up for a time slot (https://bit.ly/4gYUIk4). Parents of middle school/high school students are encouraged to stop and visit teachers between 3:00 PM and 9:00 PM.
There will be benefit for Mallory Jahn and her family during the night of parent-teacher conferences with there being a hot ham and cheese meal served in the Commons. Additional information will be provided at a later time.

Tornado Nation...A good deed in our High School from an excellent example of the fantastic students and staff we have here at CHS! Librarian Linda Holmberg awarded Junior student Anna Marohl with a "Good Deed of the Day"! She said, "I was busy getting signs ready during homecoming week and Anna was waiting in town for volleyball. She came over to me and wanted to know if there was anything she could help me with and offered to help." When snapping a photo of these two she also mentioned, "I could give this young lady one of these every day!" Way to be a great example of service and kindness to others Anna! #GOODDEED #DEEDOFTHEDAY #TORNADOPRIDE
