Staff Spotlight - Candy Bennett - Administrative Assistant
About Me -
I graduated from Centerville High School in the same class as my husband, Randy, who works for the Turner County Highway Dept. We've moved away from Centerville a couple of times, but we always ended back here to raise our two children. Our son Adam and his wife Amy and son Merle live by Lennox. He has been a truck driver since his years in the Army. Our daughter Robin and her husband Brad Tyler and their children, Paige and James, live by Hartford. She is a Deaf Education and HS English teacher.
Favorites -
Color - blue
Animal - dog
Hobbies - playing with grandchildren, reading, house projects and watching HGTV
Food - pizza
Drink - various kinds of coffee
Memory -
There are so many fun memories, I can't choose. But I suppose my favorite memories are always of working in the same school where my kids attended. Being here with them, and for them, and seeing what they went through, and how they evolved over the years with different teachers and friends.
Why Statement - Why did you choose and continue to choose to be in the world of education?
I had other jobs before this, but when I saw a job opening advertised for the school, I just knew it was a place that would be fun to work and I should go apply. And I was right, it was the most enjoyable job I had ever had. I started as a teacher's aide for three years before the administration invited me to come work in the office. I have spent the rest of my work years here because there's no other workplace like it. This is my 35th year at the school, and I've never once had that feeling of dreading going to work the next day. It's definitely a high-energy atmosphere, and the cycle of events through the year keep it from ever getting boring or monotonous. Things are constantly changing. I've been privileged to work in the same building with so many amazing teachers over the years. I can see every day what a challenging job they have, but they continue to enrich students' education with unending patience. It is inspiring to watch them work with a new variety of students every year. It has also been an ongoing pleasure to get to know all the children of this town and watch them grow up. They are energizing, and their unique personalities remind me every day that they are all special and important to this world!

Congratulations to the following students achieving fall sports awards. Great Plains conference football Miles and Alec, James Honorable Mention. All state 1st team Miles, Honorable Mention Alec. Centerville hasn't had an all state football player since 2005. Great Plains Conference volleyball. Emma, Althea, and Keira; Lillie Honorable Mention.

Why Statement - Why did you choose and continue to choose to be in the world of education?
I chose to join the world of education because it was a place that I could challenge myself to be creative and a life long learner. I also knew that it would allow me to spend time with my own children, my nieces and my nephews as they grew up. I love the kids I have taught over the years and I know every day is full of different and unique challenges and joys. We took some time this morning to honor our Veterans with a program to show them our gratitude for their service. The program started with the pledge of allegiance, followed by the national anthem sang by the high school choir and directed by Mr. Josh Morphew. Mrs. Fischer and a group of her 4th grade students then showed us the proper technique for folding the flag and shared a poem with us. After honoring all of our veterans in attendance a special performance of the song "No Greater Love" was done by an all-grade choir under the direction of Mr. Morphew. This led us to a fantastic speech by our very own Mr. Doug Edberg about his time served in the Navy. The program concluded with another song by our high school choir titled "We Honor You" and a thank you to all who attended by Mr. Fischer. THANK YOU to all who attended to help us give thanks to our veterans today! We were especially grateful for all of the veterans who could join us and let us honor them.
