2/6/25: HS boys basketball vs Bridgewater-Emery @ Emery today 5 pm C game 6:15 pm JV followed by Varsity https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jXRGIx9oqi0

This week we turn the spotlight to yet another teacher we are extremely thankful for. Mrs. Shelli Eide has served countless roles for the district whether it be teaching or coaching and we are grateful to have her as a part of our team, and have also been blessed by having her 4 wonderful daughters attend CHS as well. Thank you Mrs. Eide!
Staff Spotlight - Mrs. Eide - High School Business, K-5 Computers, MS Study Skills, Head Cross Country and Assistant Track Coach
About Me :
I attended Preschool - 12th grade and graduated from Centerville School in 1998. I then attended Dakota State University in Madison and got a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Education and an Associate Degree in Office Management. I also ran cross country for a few years at DSU. Centerville has always been “home” to me and my husband, Phillip. We are “high school sweethearts” and have been together ever since. Phillip and I both graduated as teachers from DSU. He taught in Madison and I commuted to Tea Area High School to teach for three years. After living in Madison for three years after college, we decided to return to Centerville to raise our family. We have been blessed with 23 years of marriage and have four daughters. Phillip works with his dad and brothers at Automatic Irrigation for his family business. Our oldest daughter, Sophie, graduated high school in 2022 and is at SDSU pursuing a degree in Early Childhood Education and currently is student teaching. Our #2, Lillie, graduated high school this past spring and is also at SDSU pursuing a degree in Nursing and is doing well in her studies by making the College of Nursing Dean’s List in her first semester of college. Our #3, Tessa, a junior, is active in volleyball, basketball, track, and softball. Our #4, Izzie, a freshman, is active in cross country, volleyball, basketball, track, and softball - but basketball is her #1 passion! She hopes to play in college someday. We also have three pups that are a part of our family - Coco, Lulu & Willow. Girls rule in our house!!
I took a break from teaching after leaving Tea Area High School and decided to be a stay-at-home mom and serve on the Centerville school board for two terms. For eight years, I stayed home with my girls. I am SO thankful I had that opportunity because they grow up so fast. Once all the girls were getting into their school-age years, I decided to follow my passion for teaching and coaching again. This is my 10th year teaching in Centerville. I started as the LDL (long-distance learning) supervisor and eventually took over the business classes after a few years. I have had a lot of “hats” teaching all ages throughout the years besides business classes - MS Art teacher, MS Study Skills, MS Social Studies, K-5th computer teacher, monitoring study hall/online students. Another big part of my years here at Centerville School is being a part of the coaching staff - head cross country coach for nine years, assistant track coach for 10 years and the girl’s JH basketball/assistant HS coach for four years.

Memory:
I have several great memories throughout the years at CHS. My favorite of all time is being able to watch my girls grow up in the same district that Phillip and I both did. It is such a great school district and has amazing teachers and staff. I have enjoyed watching them learn firsthand from these teachers who I am lucky to work with each day. Also, I have to say another memory I will never forget is watching my three girls (Lillie, Tessa, and Izzie) be a part of the 2024 State GBB Championship and bring home 1st place. It still gives me chills thinking about it!
My Why Statement:
Being in the education field can be very rewarding and challenging all at the same time. I love kids of all ages and being with them whether it be in the classroom, in the computer lab, in the hallway, at a practice, on the track or court. I enjoy being a part of kids’ lives by watching them change, learn, and adapt throughout their years is what makes me excited to come to school each day. Being a kid who grew up in this school shaped who I am today. I understand firsthand how important it is to have teachers and coaches who build relationships with the kids as well as educate, support, inspire, and believe in them. That experience drives me to be the kind of teacher and coach my students/athletes can always count on—someone who encourages them to work hard, and rise to challenges.

This week we put the spotlight on our fantastic Speech-Language Pathologist, Mrs. Nikki Johnson. Nikki has been a staple of the Centerville School District for many years and has truly made an impact with her time here for many students and families. She is fantastic at what she does and a vital resource for our school! Thank you for all of your dedication to the students, families, and staff of Centerville School!
Staff Spotlight - Nikki Johnson - Speech-Language Pathologist
About Me -
I grew up in Sioux Falls and have been married to my husband, Todd, for 25 years. We live south of Centerville on my husband's family farm. Todd is a self-employed farmer. We have three sons, Blake, Lane, and Colter and will soon be adding a daughter to our family! Our son, Lane, is getting married to Brynn Nelson on June 1st, 2025! Blake is 23 years old and is in the physical therapy graduate program at the University of South Dakota. Lane is 20 years old and a sophomore at Northwestern College in Orange City, Iowa. He, and his fiancée Brynn, are both elementary education majors. Colter is 17 years old and a junior at Centerville.
I received both my undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of South Dakota. After graduating, I worked at Lewis and Clark Elementary in South Sioux City, NE (2 years) and the Centerville Good Samaritan Nursing Home (3 years). Shortly after my son, Lane, was born I made the decision to stay at home with my young sons. I returned to working outside of the home when the Centerville School hired me to be the district's speech-language pathologist (SLP) in 2006; I have been with the district ever since!

Memory -
A favorite memory of my time at CHS was being given the opportunity to be at the same school as my boys. My first year at CHS was my oldest son, Blake's, first year of preschool in Centerville. Working at their school has allowed me privileges many working moms do not have. It made it easy to attend classroom events when they were young, have similar vacation days as them and easily attend their activities.
Why Statement -
I got into education on accident. When I began college, I started as a pre-physical therapy major with the intention of working in healthcare. I quickly found out physical therapy was not the path for me as did not like chemistry! A college advisor suggested I consider enrolling in an introduction to communication disorders course. I quickly fell in love with the profession and the flexibility it offered. Speech-language pathologists (SLPs) can work in various settings such as hospitals, rehabilitation clinics, nursing homes, private practice clinics, schools, and universities. We can also work with a variety of people from babies and toddlers to school-aged students and adults of all ages. However, after landing my first job in education, I was hooked and have never looked back!
